Good wishes for Shuttleworth from UCT

26 May 2002

VICE-CHANCELLOR Professor Njabulo Ndebele has sent a letter to Mark Shuttleworth on behalf of the UCT community to wish him bon voyage. It reads:

"The time for your fantastic voyage has arrived and I can assure you that many, many eyes at UCT are firmly fixed on your endeavours.

"On behalf of the UCT community, and particularly the Faculty of Commerce, we wish you a safe, spectacular launch and journey into space to the International Space Station.

"We have monitored your progress at Star City with great interest and we are indeed proud of your quest to be the First African in Space.

"We will listen and watch carefully for news of your voyage, both as you venture into space to the International Space Station and when you return to earth.

"Good luck with the experiments you plan to conduct and thank you for giving two of our exercise scientists an invaluable opportunity to conduct their research in space.

"I know Ms Gerda Kruger has indicated to you that UCT would indeed like to host you for a day on your return. As a role model, many students would like to meet you to hear of your voyage.

"Good luck and best wishes!"
