Learning Cape programme

The annual Learning Cape Festival kicked off on National Women's Day on Saturday and will culminate in the Adult Learners Week and International Literacy Day on September 8.

The Festival will build on existing campaigns but will also create the space and opportunity for individual organisations to promote their own learning programmes under a common banner.

Various events will promote lifelong learning through:

• Profiling innovative education and training programmes that contribute towards growth and development
• Awards that acknowledge the achievements of outstanding learners, educators and programmes
• Open days where different learning centres open their doors, to offer free short courses to the public
• Cultural events to raise awareness of social issues such as gender equity and HIV/AIDS
• Seminars and debates that address key learning and development issues.
