Badminton Club kicks season off on a high

Top pair: Nicky Keitsile and Samantha Oatley triumphed in the women's badminton doubles at a recent Goodwood competition.

The Badminton Club got off to a promising start to their season when two teams won their events at a doubles competition, featuring some of the region's top clubs, in Goodwood in March. First Tim Long and Samantha Oatley proved too good for everyone else in the mixed doubles contest. Oatley then teamed up with Nicky Keitsile to come up trumps in the women's event. While the UCT teams were always in the running for top honours, says club chair Alapan Arnab, the wins were something of a surprise as the players - all students - start their season later than most other clubs. That, he hopes, bodes well for the rest of the season as the teams strike out for promotion.
