Vice-Chancellor Professor Njabulo Ndebele has called for nominations for the inaugural UCT Fellows 2005 awards aimed at acknowledging outstanding scholarly work by young academics.

A maximum of six awards will be made each year to academics (under 40 years old) who have made a significant independent contribution to research in their field.

The committee to select the Fellows Award will consist of current UCT Fellows who represent a broad range of academic disciplines and will be chaired by Deputy Vice-Chancellor for research and innovation Associate Professor Cheryl de la Rey.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Njabulo Ndebele will award the prize at the annual Fellows Dinner in October.

Nominations may be submitted by any UCT academic staff member and the criteria for nominees are:

  • Permanent or T3 contract staff on academic conditions of service
  • Preferably younger than 40 years old
  • Preferably have been in academic full-time employment at UCT for not more than five years.

Applications should include:

  • The applicant's full curriculum vitae, including publications or equivalent scholarly outputs for the past three years
  • Statement of the nominee's scholarly accomplishments (one page)
  • Contact details of three individuals who may be requested to provide referee reports.

Nominations must be submitted to the Internal Funding Manager, Vanessa Thomas, Department of Research and Innovation, by July 1, 2005.
