The Students' Health and Welfare Centres Organisation (SHAWCO) has received more aid from longstanding and generous supporter First National Bank (FNB). This time around it was a R250 000 grant from the FNB Fund, money to be put to good use at SHAWCO's centre in Khayelitsha. "The centre is an integral part of the community," says Derek Carstens, FNB brand director and chairperson of the FNB Fund, "but the cost of its maintenance and the provision of activities and services are high. FNB hopes the funding will alleviate the financial burden for SHAWCO and enable them to continue to provide their valuable services." And the kindness doesn't stop there. FNB has hinted that it would be willing to help out with other needs at the centre, in addition to another R500 000 they've pledged for the following two years.
