On Thursday, May 11, students from the South African College of Music will hold a free lunchtime concert of works by Nicholas Abbott. Abbott, who died in a mountain accident in March this year, booked this concert in 2005 to perform a selection of his works. The pieces will now be performed by students from the SACM. The concert starts at 13h00 in the Baxter Concert Hall.
o On Saturday, May 13, the SACM also hosts Guitar is Fun. At this event, James Grace, head of UCT's classical guitar department, and students from the SACM will introduce youngsters to this popular instrument. They will show all who have tried their hand at the guitar that there is life beyond The House of the Rising Sun and it's never too late to start. Bothners have donated two guitars that can be won by young members of the audience. Guitar is Fun starts at 15h00 in the Baxter Concert Hall. Tickets can be booked at Computicket, and cost R15 for adults and R10 for children.
