For five years the Groote Schuur Residence has taken time out every Easter to help a community of less fortunate girls at St George's Orphanage Home in Wynberg. Bearing chocolate gifts, the Groote Schuur Elephant team got down to spreading some fun. St George's is home to girls as young as two and as old as 17. Some children have foster parents who take them during holidays and some weekends. But for the most part, they spend their time in the home, entertained through activities like art and karaoke. Some children have learning disabilities because of foetal alcohol syndrome. "Being a human being has nothing to do with money but everything to do with giving a little of oneself and especially to those who are in need," said resident Buhle Zuma.
