DJ Suga fires questions at students at the HAICU quiz finale.

HAICU (HIV/AIDS Coordination - UCT) hosted the Inter-Residence HIV/AIDS Quiz Finale, with the goal of creatively increase knowledge and awareness around HIV and AIDS.

DJ Suga from Goodhope fm hosted the event and kept res and res at loggerheads with HIV/AIDS-related questions. The team from Liesbeeck proved to be most HIV and AIDS erudite. Awarded the title of Inter-Res HIV/AIDS Quiz Winner 2006, the Liesbeeck team also received Cavendish shopping vouchers.

This event will be followed up in October with behavior change workshops and information sessions on HIV treatment and combating HIV and AIDS-related stigma.

Residences were also encouraged to participate in The AIDS Amazing Race (HAICU's mini-version of The Amazing Race, currently televised on SABC 3) on Friday, 1 September.

The AIDS Amazing Race set out to raise funds for a community-based project in Khayelitsha, working with children made vulnerable by the disease. Moreover, the objective was to get others involved and 'playing their part', consequently increasing awareness of HIV and AIDS.

Teams of four representing nine residences and the SRC shot from Jameson Plaza as the start was signaled. Tasks to challenge both body and mind - ranging from HIV/AIDS-focused crosswords to catching cherry tomatoes in femidoms from across the Jammie Plaza water feature - brought team College House (Rowan Telley, Matthew Campell, Ian Scrimgeour and Max Cromarzy) to victory, winning res glory and prizes.
