Corrections

  • On page 6 of the last edition of Monday Paper (vol 26 no 05) our headline read Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead for Baxter. The play is being staged at the Little Theatre, as the opening paragraph states. The error is regretted.

  • In the previous edition of Monday Paper (vol 25 no 05), we printed an incorrect version of a comment by Prof Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela in her comments on the death of Prof Archie Mafeje, replacing the word "marvels" with "muzzles". We apologise for this error and here print the corrected sentence: "One of the great marvels of the transformation agenda in our university is that it seeks to build a culture where scholarship can flourish in the context of diversity."

  • This from Dr Kenneth Hughes: Last week, in connection with the 1968 Mafeje affair and sit-in, I cited the chair of Council Mr Geoff Budlender and DVC Professor Martin West as among those whose political formation dates back to that time. Another old-timer whose memory is better than mine pointed out to me that, although it is correct to describe Professor West as being part of the sit-in generation, he did not actually have the "sit-in experience" as he was away in Port Nolloth doing fieldwork at the time, and only returned to UCT after it was all over. My apologies: I stand corrected.
