PROFESSOR VANESSA WATSON, new deputy dean of the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment, has been appointed chair of the Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN). Formed in 2001, GPEAN links the work of nine associations of planning schools worldwide.
UCT GRADUATE DR Kavilan Moodley has won the prestigious Silver Jubilee Medal for 2007 from the South African Institute of Physics for his outstanding contribution to the physics research community. The medal, awarded every two years to young researchers under the age of 35, was presented to Moodley, now at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, at the opening of the institute's 52nd annual conference, held at the University of the Witwatersrand.
AT THE RECENT 5th World Congress on Paediatric Critical Care, Associate Professor Andrew Argent, head of the paediatric intensive care unit at the Red Cross Children's Hospital, was elected as president of the World Federation of Paediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies (WFPICCS). At the same meeting, Associate Professor Minette Coetzee, also of the Red Cross unit, was elected to the organisation's board as nursing representative for Africa and the Middle East.
