The six finalists in the prestigious Schock Prize for Singing competition have been announced by the South African College of Music (SACM).
The final round will take place at a gala concert on 13 November at 20h15 in the Baxter Concert Hall, where each student will be required to perform an opera aria, an oratorio aria, one art song from any European country or the Americas, in the original language, and a free-choice selection. The students will be accompanied by Franklin Larey and Hendrik Hofmeyr on piano.
The competition is open to all full-time classical voice students at the SACM who are at least in their second year of study and who intend to continue studying at the SACM the following year.
The Schock Foundation will award a first prize of R5 000, a second prize of R3 000 and four third prizes of R2 000 each.
Tickets for the gala concert cost R40 (R25 for seniors and UCT students free of charge) and are available from Computicket. Learners pay R10 at the door.
