SHAWCO celebrates 75 years of caring
25 July 2018 | Video Michael van Ryneveld. Photo Brenton Geach.The Student Health and Welfare Centres Organisation (SHAWCO) launched a new exhibition marking its 75th anniversary at the South African Jewish Museum on Wednesday, 18 July 2018.
SHAWCO director Gavin Joachims was joined at the event by the keynote speaker Kevin Alexander, a Kensington community leader and the supervisor of the Haven Night Shelter.
Other guests included Miss South Africa and former SHAWCO volunteer Tamaryn Green, SHAWCO chairman Professor Crain Soudien and various SHAWCO supporters and sponsors.
The exhibition runs at the South African Jewish Museum in Gardens until the end of September 2018.
As part of its 75th celebration year, SHAWCO has launched a campaign to raise R75 million by June 2019. The money raised will be used to secure SHAWCO’s sustainability over the next period and ensure that they are able to continue their work in the community.
