In celebrating women and their achievements in fields of research, UCT hosted a virtual Women’s Day event, For Womxn by Womxn, on 13 August, affording a platform for researchers who received scholarships launched by Vice Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng in 2018 for the advancement of women to give feedback about the progression of their projects. In this video, Dr Katye Altieri discusses her research on ‘Enabling South Africa’s black oceanographers’, while her students share about how they’ve been empowered through this initiative.
