Dear Prof Phakeng, Carolyn,

I just wanted to write to say how sorry I am and dismayed by the tragic fire in Cape Town and damage to your buildings. As a huge admirer of UCT and a bibliophile, it’s just the worst news and you and your colleagues and community have my great sympathy, it just must be an absolutely awful challenge to now have amidst everything else you are dealing with right now.

I hope you can take care of yourselves and somehow find the strength and energy to get over this and continue your brilliant work, and contributions to life in CT and the world.
