Important information for guests who have accepted an invitation to attend at the venue

Dear Guest

Thank you for confirming your attendance at the Installation of the Chancellor of the University of Cape Town, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe and her Inaugural Address on Friday, 10 December 2021. We look forward to welcoming you at this very important moment in the history of the university.

Your health and safety is of utmost importance to us. We would therefore like to bring to your attention the following guidelines to help us manage any potential risks effectively.

COVID-19 Safety Requirements

  • All guests are requested to please produce either of the following documents at the registration desk outside Hall 6:
    • A COVID-19 vaccination certificate confirming full vaccination status.
      OR
    • A PCR test taken within 72 hours of the event, confirming a negative COVID-19 result.
  • To further ensure your safety, guests are requested to adhere to social distancing regulations at all times and remain masked for the duration of the ceremony. Masks can only be removed when lunch is served.

Pre-arrival

  • To ensure efficient access to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), all guests are requested to complete a screening form on the secure COVID screening app within 6 hours prior to arrival. The app will work on any mobile device with internet access. Please refer to the attached guidelines to help you navigate the screening app.
  • Tablets with the app are also provided at the CTICC entrances, should you not be able to complete the form before arriving.
  • Guests are encouraged to start arriving from 10:15 to allow enough time for screening and registration processes. The event will start promptly at 11:00 SAST.

Arrival

  • Free parking is provided in Parkade 5 (P5) at CTICC 2.
  • Guests will be required to sanitise their hands and have their temperature checked and captured on the COVID screening app before entering the venue.
  • Parking tickets will be swapped for validated tickets at the registration desk.
  • Please access the lift from P5 to the Ground Floor. The event will be held in Hall 6. This will ensure that you do not have to repeat the screening process and will be able to easily access the event.

Emergency plans

UCT takes great care in ensuring the health and safety of all our staff, students and visitors. We request that you familiarise yourself with the following emergency procedure.

In the event of an emergency

  • The presiding officer will make an announcement.
  • The ushers will assist guests to proceed to the nearest emergency exits.
  • When ordered to evacuate, please do so in an orderly fashion.
  • Emergency exit signs are visible above all exit doors, which are easily accessible.
  • The ushers will assist any elderly and disabled guests out of the venue.
  • The procession on stage should please exit through the back stage door.
  • Once outside the venue, all guests and staff must proceed to the main emergency assembly point, which will be announced and indicated by the ushers.

In the event that you need medical care, please ask for assistance from an usher or any member of staff at the event.
