The selection committee for the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor (VC) for the University of Cape Town (UCT) has reached a final shortlist of three candidates. These candidates will make presentations on Thursday, 4 April 2024 between 09:00 and 11:30. UCT staff members are invited to join proceedings via MS Teams. 1. Candidates presentation for the VC recruitment process
The shortlisted candidates for the VC position will make their presentations as follows: Professor Nellie Nosisi Feza (09:05–09:45), Professor Matlagolo Mosa Moshabela (09:55–10:35) and Professor José Frantz (10:45–11:25). Please join by clicking on the link to each candidate’s name.
The candidates will present on the topic: “UCT is ranked as the premier African university. What would your priorities, with specific actions, be in your first two years as VC to consolidate this status taking into account both emerging opportunities and challenges, as well as the ongoing need for transformation of the institution?”

2. Second provisional timetable for mid-year exams published
The UCT Examinations Office has published the second provisional timetable for the mid-year examination cycle. Students can view their timetable on the exams page.
Any requests for amendments must be sent to the relevant academic department for consideration by the HoD. UCT wishes students all the best ahead of exams!
3. CPS heightening efforts following two off campus incidents
Campus Protection Services (CPS) has worked with the relevant crime prevention agencies to heighten efforts around lower Burg Street following two recent off campus crime incidents.
the past few days, CPS has been notified of two separate incidents of assault which took place off campus at the lower Burg Street subway off Main Road, just opposite the Baxter Theatre. The survivors were both female and had been walking alone.
CPS calls on all UCT students and staff to exercise caution and to avoid walking alone off campus, particularly in the late afternoon and after dark.
The safety of the UCT community is top priority and CPS appeals to everyone to walk in groups and to be aware of their surroundings. If you feel unsafe, call the CPS 24-hour toll-free number on 080 650 2222.
4. Upcoming UCT Summer School courses
The Centre for Extra-Mural Studies will host a number of interesting Summer School courses between April and June 2024. The courses will cover a range of interesting subjects such as GenAI, self-publishing, and learning isiXhosa at intermediate level.
Please note that the Cut To The Chase: Screenwriting course has been cancelled.
