Twin accolades: UCT student financial aid manager Tasneem Salasa shows off the financial aid awards.
The Department of Student Affairs' (DSA) Student Financial Aid Office has received the Certificate of Recognition for Consistent High Level of Performance from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), the fourth such recognition in four years.
Education Minister Naledi Pandor handed the certificate to UCT at a function in Milnerton on 19 April.
"It was through your commitment and determination that we have been able to succeed with our financial aid scheme," Pandor said to institutions present.
Tasneem Salasa, UCT's student financial aid manager, dedicated the award to her staff, praising their commitment.
"This is a big achievement considering that we were competing with other institutions around the country."
Last year, the NSFAS awarded R1.36 billion to 107 586 students around the country. UCT manages over R80 million in financial aid for approximately 2 000 students. The NSFAS's contribution to this was R39 million.
UCT also took home a certificate for Improved Compliance Audit Reports.
