Johann van der Schijff of UCT's Michaelis School of Fine Art will take part in a prestigious Dak'Art showcase of African art, to take place in Germany this week.

Van der Schijff will be among the 20 African artists who will exhibit works from the Dak'Art 8th Biennial of Contemporary African Art that took place in Dakar, Senegal, in 2008.

The works tackled contemporary issues such as migration, racism and war. The German event, which kicks off on 3 April and runs until 21 June, will be hosted in Stuttgart and Berlin by the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa). In collaboration with the artists and curator Akinbode Akinbiyi, the ifa chose pieces from the Biennial's main exhibition that illustrate the high standard of contemporary African art.
