About 300 learners from 36 disadvantaged schools are visiting UCT to buff up on their subjects during SHAWCO's winter school programme, which began on 14 June.
The learners, from schools in Khayelitsha Mitchell's Plain, Langa and Wynberg, are receiving tutoring in maths, physical science, life science (biology), accountancy and English - including practicals in biology and science.
Tutors were selected from various local schools. As well as their school subjects, learners will also hear from motivational speakers, receive career guidance and even physical education classes. The winter school day begins at 09h30 and ends at 14h20.
