A conference apart: A write-up on the recent UCT-University College London Cardiology and Diabetes At the Limits conference graces the cover of the latest The Lancet.
An excerpt from the write-up by editor-in-chief Richard Horton on a recent UCT-University College London conference has made the April 14-20 edition of The Lancet's front page.
Medical conferences can be "heart-sink affairs", wrote Horton. But, he quickly added, the Cardiology and Diabetes at the Limits conference, which was jointly hosted by UCT's Professor Lionel Opie and the University College London's Professor Derek Yellon at UCT in March, has given him renewed hope.
The event, reports Horton, offered "state-of-the-art summaries and interpretations of new findings and trends across topical areas of cardiology and diabetes".
"No medical meeting is quite like it," wrote Horton.
Horton further cites a lecture by UCT head of medicine, Professor Bongani Mayosi, on the progress in strengthening the Pan African Society of Cardiology as most optimistic.
