UCT's Careers Service ranks top in national survey

Employers have voted UCT's Careers Service and Careers Fair as the best in the country, in a recent South African Graduate Employers Association (SAGEA) survey.

Director of the Careers Service, David Casey, says it's an honour to be recognised by these key careers stakeholders.

"The acknowledgement that the Careers Service has received from these employers confirms the commitment of the team in promoting a high-level, quality-assured service."

The independent survey of 93 of the country's top employers showed that leading employers in South Africa are set to recruit a record number of graduates this year and in 2016.

It also showed that 75% of these organisations expect to increase graduate salaries in 2016 and that vacancy levels had increased in 10 of the 11 industries tracked in the survey.

Competition for high-calibre candidates also remains high. For this reason, students need to ensure that they fully prepare for the interview process, says Casey.

A 'sister' survey, the 2015 SAGEA Candidate Insights Survey of new or future employers, showed that while candidates made an average of five to six job applications, 60% of them were able to choose between multiple jobs.

Good news for students looking to make use of Careers Service is that many of the employers surveyed attend careers fairs and events at UCT.
