VC calls for engagement on campus

26 September 2016 | Story by Newsroom

The Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price has called on the entire UCT community to use the week ahead to engage with one another on ways to begin reconciliatory engagement, to address transformation issues, and to make meaningful progress in this regard.

Dr Price met with heads of academic departments and deans on Monday 26 September 2016 to discuss the current issues and to share ideas. He will meet with other Vice-Chancellors this week and will seek engagement with the Minister of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Negotiations are also ongoing with members of the DHET and Universities South Africa (USAf).

A sitting of the UCT Council Exco took place on Sunday evening, 25 September 2016, where the Vice-Chancellor explained his engagement strategy for the week and expressed the wish to open the UCT campus without the use of security on 3 October 2016. He also made it clear that there would be dire consequences for the academic project should the university not reopen on that date.
