Dear colleagues and students
Please note that the memorial service for Ms Azinga Tele will now take place at 16:00 instead of 15:00 as communicated in the campus announcement on Friday last week. The service will be held on Wednesday, 26 October, at the Schoenstatt Sisters' Chapel in Constantia Main Road, Constantia.
Ms Tele, a master's student in the Department of Social Development, tragically passed away on Saturday evening, 15 October 2016. The bus she was travelling in crashed in Touws River, just outside Worcester, killing 13 people and injuring 43 others.
Ms Tele was returning from her home in the Eastern Cape, where she was visiting family, when the accident happened. She is survived by her mother and two-year-old son.
She will be buried on Saturday, 29 October 2016, at Engcobo.
Professor Viviene Taylor, head of the Department of Social Development, described Ms Tele as a “committed and tenacious young woman keen to contribute to the development of poor communities. We mourn the loss of all her potential but also celebrate all that she achieved, especially her drive to complete her thesis.”
Professor Taylor said she had already earmarked Ms Tele for PhD studies.
We convey our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
