Dear students and colleagues
This campus announcement aims to inform members of the University of Cape Town community about:
1. Development of a draft Gender-Based Violence Policy and Strategy Framework
The issue of gender-based violence (GBV) has come to the forefront at institutions of higher learning, with students and staff highlighting the need for universities and colleges to actively address it. In recognition of this, the Department of Higher Education and Training mandated the Higher Education and Training HIV/Aids Programme (HEAIDS) to implement a GBV programme. A draft Policy and Strategy Framework has been finalised by HEAIDS and is open for consultation by constituencies, stakeholders and partners. Comments or any other queries on the draft policy can be directed to Dr Sianne Abrahams. The deadline for submission of input is 6 October 2017.
2. Annual Wellness Fair to be held next week
On Wednesday, 27 September and Thursday, 28 September 2017, the Human Resource Department will host the Annual Wellness Fair at Jameson Hall on Upper Campus. The fair will provide staff with health risk screening and information from a variety of health and wellness specialists that impact their lifestyle and well-being.
3. Alert over phishing attacks on campus
The Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) department has warned that there is currently a phishing attack doing the rounds on campus, affecting both computers and mobile devices. The attack requests users to open an attachment which encrypts the user’s information, causing the user to not be able to access their files. If you receive one of these emails, do not click the attachment. If you have done so, read below about what to do next.
