Dear students and colleagues
I’m writing to express our sadness following the death of Mr Nsindiso Cwele (20), a second-year MBChB student who died on Thursday, 26 October 2017, at his Margate home in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mr Cwele joined the MBChB programme at the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2015. In September this year he cancelled his registration and returned home. He has been described by his lecturers as a quiet and respectful young man who was committed to his academic studies.
Mr Cwele is survived by his parents, Alson and Nesta, and two siblings.
The university has been liaising with his family and has reached out to offer support. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Mr Cwele’s family, friends and all who knew him.
The funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 4 November 2017, in Margate.
We remind those who might experience distress from this news that counselling services are available. Students can contact the SADAG UCT Student Careline on 0800 24 25 26, while staff can have counselling arranged through the Human Resources Department.
Sincerely
Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
