Karin Murris inaugural lecture

Former Distinguished Teacher nominee Karin Murris, professor in the field of pedagogy and philosophy at the School of Education, will present her inaugural lecture on 5 September.

The lecture is titled “Posthuman Child: Reconfiguring the human and educational relationality in all phases of education”.

Murris is an internationally-renowned scholar in the field of philosophy with children, childhood studies and philosophy of education. She is the principal investigator for the National Research Foundation-funded Decolonising Early Childhood Discourses: Critical posthumanism in higher education research project.

During the lecture, Murris will present a manifesto for a posthuman reconfiguration of the human through the child. An animated cartoon will illustrate how Western ontologies, linear time and a binary logic of progression have positioned education at the heart of a civilising process
