For University of Cape Town (UCT) staff members learning Sign Language to boost inclusivity and transformation in respect of the institution’s Deaf community, a sense of humour and a dose of tenacity proved extremely useful.
The eight staffers on the pilot programme at the Staff Learning Centre recently completed the six-week Signing programme, and can now hold a basic interactive conversation with a Deaf person in South African Sign Language (SASL).
