It is with sadness that we inform you of the death of Ms Hesterline Taylor (50), who was employed as a cook at University House. Ms Taylor died of a heart attack at the Elsies River Day Hospital on Tuesday evening, 30 October 2018, after being rushed to the hospital earlier that day following an asthma attack.
Ms Taylor worked for 15 years under different service providers at UCT before joining the university as a full-time staff member in November 2016.
Fondly known as Hessie, colleagues recall how her big, warm smile, her positive attitude and her jokes always brightened everyone’s day. Her love for playing music loudly while on duty, her passion for people and her lively spirit are some of the fondest memories her colleagues will hold dear.
Ms Taylor is survived by two children and one grandchild. The memorial service and funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed.
The university is in contact with her family and has reached out to offer support and assistance during this time of grief. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Ms Taylor’s family, friends, colleagues and all who knew her.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
