UCT Annual Awards and other updates

23 November 2018 | Campus Announcement

Dear students and colleagues

This campus announcement aims to inform members of the University of Cape Town community about:

1. UCT Annual Awards

The inaugural UCT Annual Awards took place on Monday, 19 November 2018, with four categories of awards being presented. On the night the recipients of 134 Long Service Awards, 104 ad hominem promotions, one Alan Pifer Award and four Distinguished Teacher Awards were celebrated by the university community.

2. Vice-Chancellor robing ceremony and December graduation

Council has confirmed that Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng’s robing ceremony, to mark her appointment as Vice-Chancellor, will take place on 13 December 2018 at 10:00 in Memorial Hall.

Graduation is scheduled to take place from 13 to 14 December 2018, also in Memorial Hall. On 13 December there will be two ceremonies at 14:30 and 18:00, while three ceremonies will take place the next day at 09:00, 14:00 and 18:00.

3. Extended deadline for return of declaration of interests form

The Human Resources Department thanks staff members who have already completed their declaration of interests form as per the VC Desk dated 23 October 2018. It is important for every staff member at UCT to comply with this requirement, so due to the low response rate the deadline for submitting the forms has been extended to Friday, 30 November 2018.

Staff members are required to complete the HR130 disclosure form and email it to conflictofinterest@uct.ac.za as an attachment from their UCT staff email account, or as a scanned and signed copy. It can also be returned via internal mail to the Executive Director: Human Resources at Bremner Building.

4. NSFAS closing date

The closing date for National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications is Friday, 30 November 2018. The funding scheme will not accept any more applications after the closing date. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply, as NSFAS allocates special disability funding to all approved students. Only students with a maximum household income of R350 000 per annum are eligible to apply.

Please note that GAP students (with income threshold between R351 000 and R600 000) need to apply directly to NSFAS. Continuining students whose funding for 2019 is not confirmed yet by their funders are advised to also apply for NSFAS funding if they are within the financial threshold.

Students can apply manually or online via www.nsfas.org.za.

5. Exam results

The November exam results will be issued officially on 12 December 2018. Prior to this, faculties may release provisional results.
