In remembrance: Sibusiso Mzobe

28 February 2019 | The UCT Executive

Dear students and colleagues

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the death of Mr Sibusiso Mzobe (43), who passed away on the morning of 21 February 2019 due to a long-term illness.

Mr Mzobe enrolled at the university in 2014 as an undergraduate student in the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics and was due to register for his third year in January 2019.

Geomatics staff and students came to know Mr Mzobe well during the many hours spent together in the geomatics computer laboratory, and at various academic camps and on field trips.

With a family to support and work commitments at the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform during university vacations, returning to study for his degree was not an easy choice for Mr Mzobe. He earned much respect within the department for juggling family commitments with his studies and persevering despite difficulties. He has been described as a committed and hard-working student, gentle, soft-spoken and well liked by all.

Details of the memorial and funeral services are not available at this stage.

Mr Mzobe is survived by his wife and children. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

We convey our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who knew him.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
