PASS staff nominations for election to the electoral college

To members of the PASS staff

Invitation to nominate persons for election as members of the electoral college to elect the chancellor of the University of Cape Town

The term of office of the current chancellor, Graça Machel, will end in 2019. A call for nominations for appointment as chancellor was published on 9 May 2019.

In terms of UCT’s Institutional Statute, the chancellor is elected by an electoral college which consists of:

1. the president of Convocation
2. twenty-one members elected by UCT graduates, and holders of diplomas and certificates, from their number
3. six members elected by the academic staff from their number
4. six members elected by the professional, administrative support and service staff (PASS) from their number
5. six students elected by the Students’ Representative Council

Members of the PASS staff are invited to nominate candidates for the electoral college in category (d) above.

Each nomination for the electoral college must be in writing and must:

• be signed by six people, each of whom must be a UCT PASS staff member
• be accompanied by the nominee’s written acceptance of his or her nomination and a statement by him or her, not exceeding 200 words, summarising his or her curriculum vitae.

Download a nomination form. Completed nomination forms are to be emailed to ChancellorElection.Pass@uct.ac.za or send by internal mail to The Registrar, Electoral College Nominations, Room 201, Bremner Building, Rondebosch 7700. The closing date for nominations is Friday, 14 June 2019.

If more than 6 nominations are received, a ballot will follow.

** PASS staff in payclasses 6 to 13 will receive this notice by email. PASS staff in payclasses 2 to 6 will receive this notice by hardcopy as many staff in this cohort do not have regular access to email.
