Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng wished learners across the country well for the 2019 final matric exams, praising them for having persevered through sometimes very difficult circumstances.
“Within a few weeks you will be on the cusp of a new beginning with important decisions to make ... We hope that many of you are considering studying at university, and of course we would love you to study at UCT.”
The vice-chancellor reminded students that UCT works hard to ensure we attract the best students regardless of financial background, highlighting the various bursaries, scholarships and financial aid packages available for study at the institution.
Thanking the teachers, principals, parents and guardians who sacrificed so much to bring their learners to this final stage of their school careers, the vice-chancellor looked forward to welcoming the new students to UCT’s beautiful campus.
