Dear colleagues and students
We are saddened to announce the death of Mr Siyathakazela Dinga (46), a campus protection officer at Burnage. Mr Dinga died on Saturday night, 13 June 2020, at Groote Schuur Hospital due to COVID-19. His passing is, sadly, another painful reminder of the reality of the pandemic for the UCT community.
Mr Dinga joined Campus Protection Services in 2016. He has been described as a hard worker who would always seek clarity if he did not understand something, while at the same time being willing to offer advice to others whenever he could. He will be remembered for always being available to assist whoever needed his help.
Mr Dinga is survived by his wife, Nomvuyo Sambesiwe Dinga, and two children. He will be buried on Saturday, 27 June, at Ngcwazi location in Ngqamakhwe, Eastern Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Dinga family. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Mr Dinga’s family, friends and all who knew him. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
