COVID-19 has shown that the future and relevance of universities worldwide is bound to their social compact – research and knowledge that serves society – and their resilience. Their adaptability and agility in the face of the pandemic and lockdown saw many changing in ways unimaginable just months ago, said Professor Stephen Toope, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, when delivering the second virtual UCT Vice-Chancellor’s Open Lecture for 2020 under the title “Global partners, global leaders”.
