In remembrance: Abir Botes

It is with deep sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of Mrs Abir Botes (46), a PhD student in Education. She passed away from natural causes on 17 November in Djibouti.
Her academic achievements and all her efforts towards her doctoral degree were acknowledged when her PhD was awarded posthumously on 14 December 2020. She will be remembered as a kind and determined person who was full of life and loved adventure.
Mrs Botes is survived by her husband, Steven; son, Philiphus; mother, Mona Kassab and brothers, Abdo and Lilo Kassab.
The funeral service will be held on 21 December at 11:00. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and regulations, attendance is by invitation only. The funeral service will be live-streamed.
The university has reached out to offer support to Mrs Botes’ family and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew her.
