In remembrance: Shane Makamu

It is with immense sorrow that we write to share with you the unexpected passing of our student Mr Sanelisiwe Shane Makamu (19) on the evening of 7 December 2020. He passed away at his home in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
Mr Makamu was enrolled for a Bachelor of Business Science degree, specialising in Actuarial Science, in the Faculty of Commerce.
A dedicated and diligent student who always strived for excellence, Mr Makamu is remembered for always prioritising his studies. He had his head in his books and was constantly researching subjects relating to his studies and other areas of interest. His family remembers him as a loving son and brother to his three sisters. He was a very quiet, caring and supportive person. He liked to cook, exploring different recipes and trying out different meals.
The youngest in his family, Mr Makamu is survived by his mother, Agnes; and sisters Nompumelelo, Celiwe and Bongiwe. His funeral took place on 13 December 2020.
Our thoughts are with the Makamu family as they continue to recover from the loss of their beloved son. The university has reached out to the family to offer our condolences to them and all who knew Mr Makamu.
