Dear students and colleagues
To celebrate the formal launch of the University Panel on Responsible Investment (UPRI), and the university’s Responsible and Sustainable Investment Policy, you are invited to join an informative virtual conversation with a number of leading universities on the topic of responsible investment of a university endowment fund.
Details for this online event are as follows:
Date: 22 April 2021
Time: 18:30-19:30 SAST
Platform: Microsoft Teams
The panel discussion will be moderated by former ambassador to the USA, Barbara Masekela, and will include representatives from Yale, Oxford and UCT.
The formation of UPRI was approved by the university Council in 2017 as an advisory body on responsible and sustainable investment related to the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) endowment funds. UPRI also has the responsibility of engaging various UCT stakeholders on matters relating to responsible investment, that will be considered in how it shapes university policy on responsible investment. In December 2020, UCT’s Council approved the Responsible and Sustainable Investment Policy.
A UPRI web page has recently gone live, through which the policy on responsible and sustainable investment can be accessed. The website also has information on how to engage with UPRI in its planned consultations on specific aspects of responsible and sustainable investment. The first of these consultations will seek to elicit views of the broad university community on the university’s investments in fossil fuels, and investments that impact on climate change.
We look forward to you joining the conversation on 22 April and continuing this as we move forward towards greater responsible investment of UCT’s endowment fund.
