Dear colleagues and students
We are saddened to share news of the passing of our colleague Mr Marco Frontini (49) on 17 April 2021 from lung cancer.
Mr Frontini was highly skilled in several facets of his job as a technical officer at the Little Theatre, University of Cape Town (UCT) Hiddingh campus and was a part of our UCT community since 1987. He was adaptable, kind, generous and always willing to share his knowledge with others, helping both staff and students whenever there was a need. Colleagues noted that he was a true ‘go-to-guy’ who enjoyed solving technical challenges to make practical teaching or research work dynamic and stimulating.
He was a man of quiet integrity, strength and efficiency who made others feel welcome, Mr Frontini was a real asset to the department; always smiling in the face of an unrelenting volume of work. His positivity and indomitable spirit made it easy to engage with him. His colleagues remember his smile fondly sharing that it was as if his whole face was designed for that purpose.
One colleague echoed the sentiment of others when they shared, “I’m glad to have had the privilege of knowing and working with Marco, a true gent, a pleasure to talk to, always smiling and positive, a kind man who I considered a friend not just a colleague. He will be missed.”
Mr Frontini has left a legacy of kindness above all else in the difficult world of the theatre and will be fondly remembered for his heart of gold.
He is survived by his wife Antoinette and children Luca and Lara and has been laid to rest by his family.
We send our condolences to the Frontini family, friends and all who knew him during this time.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
