Dear colleagues and students
It pains us deeply to share that our student, Ms Salndave Bongani Skosana (29), passed away following a tragic criminal incident in Pretoria on 18 March 2022.
Ms Skosana was in the final year of her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology and was respected and acknowledged for being a very good, hard-working and committed PhD candidate with great promise as a future academic. Ms Skosana was very close to fulfilling her dream and was busy writing up her PhD when she passed away. She was very close to several of her peers, who feel her loss most acutely. They shared that they will never forget her and will especially remember her stunning smile which radiated love and kindness.
She was much loved by many and widely appreciated and admired for her kind, wise, friendly and helpful nature. Her dedication to and deep love for her daughter and the challenges she bravely faced were also an inspiration to many.
The Molecular and Cell Biology department has put up a memory board in the foyer of the department and people are welcome to add to this – these messages will then be sent to the family.
She is survived by her nine-year-old daughter Lee-Ann, mother Salome, father David, sister Sibongiseni and extended family.
Ms Skosana’s funeral was held on Saturday, 26 March 2022 in Mamelodi.
Our sincere condolences to Ms Skosana’s family and friends during this time of grief.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
