Dear students and colleagues
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Mr Galiek Dilika (62).
Mr Dilika, who served as a cleaner in the Campus Cleaning: Upper Campus Hub, passed away on Sunday, 23 April 2023 after being admitted at Lentegeur Hospital in Mitchells Plain following a short illness.
He joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2016. Colleagues have described Mr Dilika as a very quiet, friendly and respectful person who enjoyed his job and was pleasant to work with. He is said to have always had a smile on his face.
Mr Dilika is survived by his wife Gladys, and four daughters – Anela, Phelelwa, Nokonwaba and Neliswa. He was buried on Saturday, 6 May 2023 at Esikhobeni location in Tyinirha, Nqamakwe, in the Eastern Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Dilika family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him.
