Dear colleagues and students
It gives me pleasure to invite you to the launch of our University of the Future (UoF) project. This invitation comes on behalf of the UoF steering committee.
The UoF is a strategic project, approved and supported by Council. It aims to create a modern, vibrant and striking campus, designed to attract staff and student talent, local businesses, donors, industry interest and the broader community.
The vision of the UoF project is to create an enabling environment in support of UCT’s Vision 2030 to unleash human potential for a fair and just society, while its mission is to create enabling places, spaces, services and functions for the future of the University of Cape Town (UCT).
The project steering committee is chaired by Professor Salome Maswime, the head of the Global Surgery Division from our Faculty of Health Sciences; with Mr Richard Perez, the director of the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika serving as deputy chair. The committee has wide representation from across our university – including academic staff; professional, administrative and support service (PASS) staff; unions; executives; and the Students’ Representative Council – as well as the broader Cape Town community. This diverse committee will advise the UCT executive on the future of places and spaces at UCT.
Our university of the future will be a welcoming and vibrant place and space. All UCT campuses will incorporate enhanced formal learning and social spaces, well-planned food outlets, as well as shared spaces for improved community engagement, as we work towards the goals of Vision 2030, and beyond.
Please join us to learn more about this exciting project. The details of the launch event are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 31 May 2023
Time: 14:00–15:00
Platform: Microsoft Teams
It is imperative, especially if we want to remain the best university in and for Africa, that we provide an enabling and inclusive environment for staff and students for teaching, learning, and research, one that is fit for purpose, and fit for our future.
Sincerely
Emer Prof Daya Reddy
Vice-Chancellor (Interim)
