Dear colleagues and students
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our student, Ms Sinelizwi Nyembezi (20), a third-year student in BSc: Speech-Language Path. She passed away on Saturday, 10 June 2023.
Ms Nyembezi enrolled for her studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT)’s Faculty of Health Sciences in 2021. She has been described as a quiet, independent person who loved to see her family and friends being at peace. She was always the one to offer comfort and guidance whenever she could.
Ms Nyembezi is survived by her father, Sibongiseni Mpukwana; mother, Bongiwe Nyembezi; and siblings Simnikiwe Nyembezi, Andile and Onelihle Mduna, and Zusiphe and Minentle Mpukwana.
The Department of Student Affairs has held a service on campus to honour her memory. She will be buried on Sunday, 25 June 2023 at Dumsi Village, Mbizana in the Eastern Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Nyembezi and Mpukwana families and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved her during this time of bereavement.
The UCT Executive
