Dear colleagues and students
Following the update I provided around senior leadership roles at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in May 2023, I write to share further details in relation to acting appointments.
The UCT Council, at its most recent meetings held in June 2023, approved acting arrangements in the roles of Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, and Executive Director: Human Resources. I also share an update in relation to the deanship of the Faculty of Science.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC): Teaching and Learning (T&L)
Professor Harsha Kathard returned to her academic activities when her contract as acting DVC: T&L ended on 30 June 2023.
It gives me pleasure to announce the appointment of Emerita Professor Linda Ronnie as acting DVC: T&L for the period 17 July 2023 to 30 April 2024.
Acting Executive Director: Human Resources (ED: HR)
Council has approved the recommendation for Mr Bongani Ndaba’s acting term to be extended to 31 December 2023. Mr Ndaba has been serving as acting ED: HR since May 2022, and I thank him for his willingness to continue in this role.
Acting Dean of Science
Professor Maano Ramutsindela stepped down as dean at the end of June 2023, for personal reasons.
I am pleased to inform you that Professor Patrick Woudt has been appointed as acting dean for the period 1 July 2023 to 31 December 2023.
The processes for making substantive appointments in each of these positions are at various stages, and announcements will be made as and when these recruitment processes are concluded.
I will also share an update at a later stage around acting arrangements in the role of chief operating officer, with Dr Reno Morar’s term ending on 31 July when he takes early retirement.
I once again thank the departing members of the UCT Leadership Lekgotla for the significant contributions they have made during their tenure. I am also delighted to welcome and look forward to working with the colleagues appointed to the various positions on an acting basis.
Sincerely
Emer Prof Daya Reddy
Vice-Chancellor interim
