UCT assessing possible impact of current taxi strike

04 August 2023

Dear colleagues and students

The University of Cape Town (UCT) notes with concern the impact of the current taxi strike on staff and students.

The university will continously assess the possible impact on the academic project and adjust accordingly should the need arise, taking into consideration the safety and security of students and staff as an utmost priority.

At this stage:

  • The UCT Shuttle continues to operate, albeit at very limited capacity. Staff and students are regrettably advised to expect some delays and, where possible, to make alternate travel arrangements.
  • Classes are scheduled to continue in-person where possible. Faculties might make course-specific decisions on some classes, so students are urged to liaise with their course convenors.
  • Staff members commuting to campus are urged to assess their specific situations and liaise with their line managers accordingly.

UCT will provide more updates as and when there are any further developments during the course of the day, and throughout the duration of the taxi strike.
