Dear students and colleagues
The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) incoming Students’ Representative Council (SRC) for the 2023/24 term of office has been constituted following the elections held from 18 to 22 September 2023.
A total of 8 049 students, 30.50% of the total student population, voted during the 2023/24 SRC elections.
The Economic Freedom Fighters Students’ Command (EFFSC) won 10 seats, followed by the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation (DASO) with three seats, and the South African Students Congress (SASCO) and ActionSA Students’ Chapter with one seat each.
The constituting meeting of the 15 SRC portfolios was held on Friday, 13 October 2023.
The new SRC’s term of office will run from 1 November 2023 to 30 October 2024.
The SRC is the highest decision-making structure of student governance.
It represents the interests of all UCT students in university committees. It is highly involved in policy-making and co-operative decision-making on campus.
The duties, functions, privileges and term of office are set out in the SRC Constitution approved by Council.
The SRC is a very important stakeholder within UCT. The notion of co-operative governance is embraced by the institution through the promotion of electoral processes that allow for the election of a representative SRC.
Congratulations to the newly elected SRC.
