In remembrance: Gaby Du Toit

Dear colleagues and students

We are saddened to belatedly inform you of the passing of our final-year student Ms Gaby Du Toit due to a medical emergency on Thursday, 14 September 2023.

Ms Du Toit was studying towards a Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc), specialising in Finance. Her hard work and dedication will be rewarded with the degree that will be conferred posthumously at a graduation ceremony to be held in December 2023.

Ms Du Toit embraced the challenges of the demanding BBusSc degree, which is regarded as one of the best degrees in finance and accounting in South Africa, but also one of the most challenging. She performed exceptionally well in this programme.

When the Department of Finance and Tax learned of her sad passing and shared this news with her fellow students, the response received from friends and fellow students made it evident that she had made a huge impact on them through her friendliness and general positive attitude toward all.

Ms Du Toit has been described as a person with drive, passion and the will to make a difference in the lives of those around her.

She is survived by her father Chris, mother Wanda, sister Kylie, brother Ryan, and brother-in-law Warren Blakeman.

A memorial service was held on Monday, 25 September 2023.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Du Toit family. We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and all who knew our late student.
