Dear colleagues and students
The season of celebrating our students’ hard work, commitment and dedication to their studies is upon us. One of the most significant moments on the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) calendar, graduation, will take place on Thursday, 14 December and Friday, 15 December 2023.
Graduation ceremonies are an important highlight in our university calendar. They afford us a unique opportunity to recognise, honour, and celebrate our new graduates’ academic success and achievements.
As an African saying goes, ‘umntu ngumntu ngabantu’ (loose translation: ‘we are all connected and one succeeds through the support of others’), we firmly believe that our students’ success and support from academics and administrative staff is a testament to this. It is therefore befitting to acknowledge and congratulate UCT academics and support staff who worked tirelessly leading to this momentous period. We equally congratulate the family and friends of our graduands who offered them support and encouragement during their studies.
To our graduands, you have now made an essential contribution to our accumulated stock of knowledge. You have pushed the frontiers of knowledge and have opened new vistas for further exploration. Your sacrifices, tenacity and persistence have brought you to this splendid moment of celebration. Congratulations!
The ceremonies will be live-streamed so guests who are unable to attend can watch on the UCT graduation feature page or the university’s social media platforms: Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). Recordings of the ceremonies will be made available at a later stage on the UCT YouTube channel.
All important details regarding graduation have been sent to each graduand’s MyUCT email address.
The December graduation ceremonies will take place in the Sarah Baartman Hall for all faculties as follows:
We urge all our graduands to please visit the graduation information page on the UCT students website for important specific details about this summer graduation.
UCT is beaming with pride for continuing to produce graduates who are knowledgeable intellectuals, skilled professionals and critical, caring and compassionate citizens who can contribute to economic and social development and a fair and just society. Our Vision 2030 is indeed on course.
On behalf of the UCT community, I offer our warmest congratulations to all our graduands on their outstanding achievements.
Sincerely
Emer Prof Daya Reddy
Vice-Chancellor interim
