Dear colleagues and students
It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Ms Libo Msengana-Bam as Executive Director: Communication and Marketing, with effect from 1 September 2024.
Ms Msengana-Bam’s experience in the communication and marketing field spans more than 20 years, ten of which were spent at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
I am confident that Ms Msengana-Bam will, with her appointment, steer the Communication and Marketing Department (CMD) to greater heights. The position has been vacant since Ms Gerda Kruger’s early retirement in October 2023. During this period, the department has been jointly led by Aloy Gowne, Elijah Moholola, Olwen Manuel and Omphitlhetse Mooki. I express my gratitude to these colleagues for their considerable efforts and commitment during this interim period.
Ms Msengana-Bam will join CMD from the Development and Alumni Department (DAD), where she has been serving as the senior manager for alumni relations since March 2017 and more recently, as deputy director in the department. As part of this portfolio, she provides strategic leadership, developing and implementing an iterative strategic plan for national and international alumni engagement, including objectives, timelines and routine assessment. In addition, she assumed oversight of the DAD communications portfolio, which includes alumni publications, digital campaigns and channels.
Before her current position at DAD, Ms Msengana-Bam was the communication, marketing and alumni manager at UCT’s Faculty of Humanities. Some of her responsibilities included the preparation of print and digital communication material for use in the recruitment of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as for alumni engagement. She was responsible for media engagement as well as organising faculty events, including the annual UCT Open Day, the dean’s special event series and inaugural lectures.
Previously, she held several corporate communications positions within the financial, consumer, and information and communication technology sectors.
Ms Msengana-Bam is a proud UCT alumna and has completed Bachelors and Honours degrees in the social sciences and an Executive MBA.
I congratulate Ms Msengana-Bam on her appointment and we look forward to welcoming her to the senior leadership of the university.
Emer Prof Daya Reddy
Vice-Chancellor interim
