On Tuesday, 20 August 2024, the University of Cape Town (UCT) hosted the first Vice-Chancellor’s Open Lecture of the year, featuring Nobel Laureate Professor Joachim Frank. Renowned for his groundbreaking work in cryo-electron microscopy, Prof Frank presented a lecture titled “Cryo-electron microscopy, a new foundation for molecular medicine and drug design”.
Hosted by UCT Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mosa Moshabela, the lecture explored the transformative impact of cryo-EM on the study of biological molecules, highlighting its role in drug design and the development of vaccines, including those for COVID-19. This event is part of UCT’s commitment to sharing knowledge from leading academics and innovators with the broader community.
