Dear students
The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Student Wellness Service (SWS) will continue to offer a range of services during the upcoming examinations period, to ensure that students are adequately supported.
Students are reminded of the following available services:
1. Deferred examinations support
A dedicated deferred exams tab can be accessed online on the SWS booking system. Students are advised to bring the ACA44a form if they require a clinician to complete it after being clinically assessed.
All students who are existing clients of the service or in ongoing therapy with a clinician can continue with their booked appointments and send their ACA44a to the SWS practice manager to present the need to book an extra appointment for support documents.
Students are to take note of the submission deadlines for their application documents. The Health Professions Council of South Africa regulates practitioners, and the issuing of medical certificates and the consultation date cannot be backdated.
2. SWS main clinic: Ivan Toms Building
Located at the Ivan Toms Building on lower campus in Mowbray, the SWS main clinic provides comprehensive primary healthcare, including medical services, pharmacy, counselling and social work. Operating hours are from Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 16:30.
3. Upper campus clinic
Limited medical services are available at the upper campus clinic in the Steve Biko Students Union building. The clinic operates from Monday to Friday, between 08:30 and 16:30.
Please note that main and upper campus clinics only provide walk-in services for students with high-risk symptoms. All other consultations must be pre-booked online. For nursing advice, contact the SWS nurse triage line at 021 650 5620 during operating hours. After hours, students can obtain nursing advice via the SWS crisis nurse triage line: 021 650 1271.
4. Counselling services
Students requiring counselling support can book online or email peer counsellors for additional support.
The SWS’s 24-hour telephonic counselling services are available even during weekends and after hours:
5. Pharmacy services
Students can collect prescribed medication from the pharmacy after consultation with an SWS clinician. Students must book the collection of repeat medication online. This service option is only available for students with valid prescriptions.
6. Alternative support services
Please note that SWS clinics are closed on weekends.
Students can access alternative services as follows:
Please immediately notify CPS on 021 650 2222 in an emergency or crisis. CPS would then contact Emergency Medical Services.
The SWS wishes students all the best for the exams. Any further queries can be forwarded to the SWS practice manager.
